The Tour Saint-Nicolas is another landmark tower of the Old Port.
On a slightly pentagonal base, it has a height of thirty-six feet. The interior consists of three large rooms stacked octagonal, two of which are vaulted. The floor is sloped at 2%, reflecting the depression of the tour found during construction. Inclination to be kept for the restoration of the tower, but the ground will be raised 50cm from the original soil. Each level of the tower is pierced at its center an oculus, round opening once used to supply the floors of the tower, talk or defend themselves.
Three cells are located around the ground floor. Their function is uncertain according to historians.
The first tower was built on stilts, and was isolated on the water. No wall not connected it to the mainland.
In the second half of the fourteenth century was built the tower as we know it today.
On the side of the tower, one can see the beginnings of an arch. The architect Lisch, responsible for the restoration of the towers in the late nineteenth century deduced the existence of an arch between the tower of St. Nicolas and the small tower in the chain. But no burning, nor any copies of it mentions the existence. It certainly has never been built.
