Created in the castle of Compiegne at the initiative of Paul Leon, Director of Fine Arts, and through the efforts of Leon Auscher, Vice President of the Touring Club de France, the National Museum of the Car and Tourism was inaugurated in 1927 by Edouard Herriot, Minister of Public Instruction and Fine Arts. Its theme is the history of road locomotion, from the origins of the coupling to the beginnings of the automobile adventure. The collection, presented on 3200 m² area museum, offers examples of particularly rich and varied through its various sections: the team, cycle and car.
