The Museum of the Sea is located in Biarritz in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques to the rock face of the Virgin. It's an Art Deco building, attached to the cliff of the plateau of Atalaye, which dates back to 1933. It was renovated in 1992 and houses a large collection of marine animals and birds. The emblem of the Museum of the Sea is an octopus white on blue.
The museum is built on four levels:
• In the basement, aquariums are marine life in the Bay of Biscay: fish, plants and shellfish.
• The first level provides information on fishing techniques, cetaceans, whaling and marine life.
• The second level of this cave of 120 m³ sharks (sharks, large fish and a turtle) and the underwater vision of four seals (named Charlie, Titounette, Sylvestrine and Oker) frolicking in their pool of third level. Their meals, served daily at 10:30 am and 17h, is public and is a popular attraction for visitors.
• The terrace contains a shop, outdoor pool and a gallery of seals bird referencing a large number of bird species. It presents an interesting view on the Basque coast.
