Lac de Monteynard-Avignonet

Monteynard Lake or Lake Monteynard-Avignonet is an artificial water reservoir of the Drac, in the department of Isere, powering a hydroelectric power plant EDF.

It is located about 630 meters, 45 kilometers south of Grenoble and 10 km from La Mure. It covers about six miles in length, and has an average width of 300 meters, with a maximum depth of 115 meters. The area of ​​the lake is 6.60 km ² (657 hectares). Monteynard dam is an arch dam built in 1962, and 135 meters.

The lake is bounded by the canyons of the Drac and Ebron. It separates the valleys of Trièves and Matheysine.

The lake is overlooked by the little train of La Mure.

This lake is often windy so it is very popular with practitioners of water sports. It is also an important fishing site because it is rich fish (variety of species).
