Gilles de Rais (Bluebeard) resided there in the fifteenth century, but the origins of the construction of the castle are before this character, perhaps the twelfth or thirteenth century. This Gothic style building has also changed under the Chauvigny and under Gondy. Today it is a private property which can be seen the remains via a footpath. A "sound and light", depicting the life of Gilles de Rais, is held each summer on the site.
