Castle Vizille to Vizille (Isère) is the largest and most prestigious castle of the Dauphiné.
It was built in the early seventeenth century by François de Bonne (1543-1626), Duke of Lesdiguieres, governor of the province Delphinale, comrade in arms of Henry IV and last Constable of France.
Property until 1895 of the influential family Perier known for his political involvement in the liberal bourgeoisie, the estate then passed through several hands before being acquired private by the State in 1924, according to a national desire. It was to save the break-up what had become a hotbed of history and republican tradition honored by visits with family, friends, official and militant de Lafayette, Casimir Perier, Adolphe Thiers, Sadi Carnot and Jean Jaures.
The field, little used in the end, was ceded to the General Council of Isère in 1973. In 1983, anticipating the celebration of the bicentennial of the French Revolution, the Museum of the French Revolution of Vizille sat in different rooms of the castle.
