Overlooking the city, the fortress began in the tenth century evokes a time when the history of France and of England was intimately involved: the Court of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine was established there in twelfth century. Philippe Auguste, winner of John Lackland, occupies the place in 1205 and there had built a dungeon. In 1429, in the great hall of the house, the historic meeting place of Joan of Arc with the Dauphin, later Charles VII.
