Thirteenth, sixteenth, thirteenth centuries.

Occupying a very strong position, on top of a hill overlooking the granite basin Seuge the Esplantas Castle was built by Odilon Mercoeur bishop of Mende from 1247 to 1274 to protect the southern flank of its possessions Saugaines.
The cylindrical keep, derived from the main tower erected by Philippe Auguste, the date of 1252 as evidenced by the analysis
dendrochronological an oak beam ceilings remained in place. The house that surrounds part of the dungeon, on a
polygonal, was rebuilt in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.
The entire castle has undergone extensive restoration. Saved from ruin, it has been open to visitors.
