Bed & Breakfast Clos du Bailli

Clos du Bailli is a place rooted in the heritage of the town of Saint-Omer, a house of canons of the cathedral, already appearing in one of the famous relief plans of Louis XIV, a heritage which inspired 5 years of work, launched in 2018 and which aims to convey the sense of beauty, history and families.

Le Clos du Bailli is a story at the crossroads of the two emblematic squares of the town of Saint-Omer: Place Sithieu and the Enclos de la cathédrale.
The first, Sithieu, refers to the old name of Saint-Omer, before he, with his monks, transformed a marsh into a port city, of culture and commerce, rich with 35,000 inhabitants in the Middle Ages, with the castle mound at its heart. The statue of Pierre Alexandre de Monsigny, student at the Jesuit college, composer and precursor of comic opera (1729-1817), recalls the link between education and music, so dear to Saint-Omer.
The second place in question is the Enclos, formed by thirty canons' houses. The collegiate church was raised to the rank of cathedral after the destruction of Thérouanne Cathedral by Charles V in 1553.

Finally, the Clos du Bailli is a family, an intangible heritage linked to living history!
Jean-Jacques de Lencquesaing arrived in Aire around 1625 and was buried in Saint-Omer in the Church of Saint-Denis in 1661.
His descendants were the bailiffs of Saint-Omer: Dominique was bailiff in 1766, followed by his son Eustache in 1777.
