Located in Limousin, 10 minutes from La Souterraine, on the border between Creuse and Haute-Vienne, this thousand-year-old place is far from having revealed all its secrets.
We would be delighted to let you discover the progress of our investigations during a visit that you can extend with a stay in a bed and breakfast.
The site of Montautre has been occupied since the Neolithic. It is located overhanging a tributary of the Semme, on the edge of a plateau and close to springs of running water. It has vestiges of the Gallo-Roman era. From 1403, the life of the site is known thanks to the archives fully preserved by the descendants of the family who occupied it for 6 centuries. The 1st "lord of Montostre" was Olivier Mondin, squire, who had the seigniorial dwelling built around 1465, next to a building dated 1445. Opposite, the guards' dwelling and its 2 towers were built in 1500-1510. The whole is closed by machicolated walls which were accessed by a drawbridge, which no longer exists. In 1735, Marie-Marthe Mondin, sole heiress of the estate married Joseph-Daniel Bony de Lavergne, Count of Ladignac who became lord of Montautre. Their daughter Marie de Bony inherited the estate and married Charles-Sylvain Dufour de la Prugne, mayor of La Souterraine. Thus, the site manages to go through the entire revolutionary period without damage.
Sharing with you this rich history and its connection with the great history of France is our objective.
Come and enjoy castle life and the crackling fire in the living room for a stay and a rest in the bedroom of the Countess or that of the priest.
You can also enjoy the outdoor swimming pool and the entire estate, with its meadows, forests, fishery, canals, ponds... (20 ha)

Ancienne chambre de M. Paul Dufour de la Prugne, descendant direct des Mondin de Montautre, cette chambre possède une cheminée Louis XVI en chêne. Les poutres remises à nu récemment sont datées de 1440.
Les particularités de la chambre :
- située en rez-de-jardin, la chambre, orientée au soleil levant, ouvre sur la terrasse XVIIème et le bois de Montautre
- la salle de bain située dans la tour contiguë possède baignoire et douche
- le lavabo est intégré dans une ancienne armoire
Idéale pour une famille, la chambre de M. le Curé est aménageable en suite avec la chambre "1440", contiguë, qui propose 2 lits simples (90x200). Elle possède la même orientation et la même ouverture sur la terrasse XVIIème.
