Notorious for its wines, the region also specializes in dishes such as Açorda de Peixe do Rio (traditional bread-based fish dish) and Bolo Rançoso (almond and squash cake).
It is a 55-minute drive to Évora and its ancient walls, Roman Temple and the famous Bone Chapel, a chapel with its inside completely coated in human bones. Every July there is a city-wide festival called “Monsaraz Museu Aberto” where the local culture is on display, including cuisine, crafts, music and theatre.
The Casa Saramago is located a 75-minute drive to the Beja Airport, and a 2-hour drive to the Lisbon International Airport.
